October updates

This was the view of the moon the other night, a perfectly eeiry landscape as we get closer to Halloween.
Below are pictures from our Hike up Iron Mountain Loop, some of you will remember it because it takes off from the trailhead we stopped at near the "pigtail bridges" when we went to Custer State Park. It was a beautiful fall day, temps in the 60's and we followed it with a great lunch at The Alpine Inn.

I loved all the beaver dams.

Jake and his new bed, it is a crib mattress, and he loves it.  Every night by 7:30 he puts himself to bed, and in the morning he doesn't want to get up. We have had some "Jake" tales lately.  One day while sitting outside waiting for Jorge to come home, he decided to take off after the UPS truck and went way down the road before the guy was finally able to get some distance and floor it, thus leaving Jake behind, with me way back running after him.
Another day while on a 4 mile walk, Jake took off on a full sprint through some grass, not seeing the barbed wire fence that dropped down low in a gully.   He tried to jump it at the last second, but it was too late and he hit the fence.  All I could see were long dog legs and his body wrapping around the fence, and then flipping over it, landing on his back on the other side.  My mind had images of a severely cut up dog, but luckily all he had was a cut lip and a scratched leg.  He sat up and looked at me like the Maxine picture where she is sliding in with a glass of wine in one hand hitting home plate and yelling: 'What a ride.' Although it took some work to get him to come back over the fence as he is a dog who learns some lessons quickly.
I found this coffee table in a thrift store for $20, it is solid oak, from the '70's, and the only thing wrong with it was it was faded on top and a dated honey oak color.  I stripped the paint off, and Jorge helped me sand it, and then I used a white glaze to give it this white washed look.  It is great in my sewing studio.

  1. 1) Jake is so adorable!
    2) Those skyscapes are gorgeous!
    3) I love that table and want to steal it from you. Nice find!! :)

D and I are currently on a hunt for two chairs for our living room, and rather than buy new...we're hoping to give a new life to two chairs from St. Vinny's (ie. Goodwill).

Second hand is fun - and frequently you get pieces of furniture that are really great quality!! :)

    Miss you both,

  3. Thanks both of you. We miss you too. Don't forget to check stores that sell second hand, if you plan on refinishing you might find something they want to get rid of because people don't want to refinish. Someone just told me of a great table they got for $5 because the guy said people don't come to second hand stores and want to refinish furniture so he needs to dump any of that.
