October updates
This was the view of the moon the other night, a perfectly eeiry landscape as we get closer to Halloween.
Below are pictures from our Hike up Iron Mountain Loop, some of you will remember it because it takes off from the trailhead we stopped at near the "pigtail bridges" when we went to Custer State Park. It was a beautiful fall day, temps in the 60's and we followed it with a great lunch at The Alpine Inn.
I loved all the beaver dams.
Jake and his new bed, it is a crib mattress, and he loves it. Every night by 7:30 he puts himself to bed, and in the morning he doesn't want to get up. We have had some "Jake" tales lately. One day while sitting outside waiting for Jorge to come home, he decided to take off after the UPS truck and went way down the road before the guy was finally able to get some distance and floor it, thus leaving Jake behind, with me way back running after him.
Another day while on a 4 mile walk, Jake took off on a full sprint through some grass, not seeing the barbed wire fence that dropped down low in a gully. He tried to jump it at the last second, but it was too late and he hit the fence. All I could see were long dog legs and his body wrapping around the fence, and then flipping over it, landing on his back on the other side. My mind had images of a severely cut up dog, but luckily all he had was a cut lip and a scratched leg. He sat up and looked at me like the Maxine picture where she is sliding in with a glass of wine in one hand hitting home plate and yelling: 'What a ride.' Although it took some work to get him to come back over the fence as he is a dog who learns some lessons quickly.
I found this coffee table in a thrift store for $20, it is solid oak, from the '70's, and the only thing wrong with it was it was faded on top and a dated honey oak color. I stripped the paint off, and Jorge helped me sand it, and then I used a white glaze to give it this white washed look. It is great in my sewing studio.

CHICO HOT SPRINGS, YELLOWSTONE AND GREAT FRIENDS
Nothing lifts the spirit more than getting together with good friends. Getting in touch with nature adds icing to the cake, and makes for a majestic weekend.
Cow elk has the right of way at Mamooth Hot Springs
This bull bison finally drifted off to the shoulder of the road and let us pass him
We saw several bald eagles, including one that performed a high speed acrobatic air show with this one moments after this shot was taken
The time had passed for bull elk to buggle, as witnessed by this one who had already captured the attention of 3 cows. Just beyond and to the right of these elk we saw a pack of wolves with the help of another visitor's binoculars, but too far for pictures
Mama Linda hold on to the rail after looking down the gorge of the Yellowstone River
The black sillouhette to the right of the pine tree is a hefty black bear
The Yellowstone River and a steaming caldera about mid-frame
On the way back through Mamooth Hot Springs, the town had been taken over by this beautiful bull elk and his harem of about 15 cows
What a rack!
We thought we were done with our wildlife encounters when we came upon a herd of about 15 mountain sheep. These youngsters displayed awesome agility and energy as they came down the hillside to get a drink of water from the river.
Memories that will last a lifetime and great friends to share them with. JIR

Quilting
I have 8 dontated quilt tops to quilt for the VA, and am trying to finish them so I can work on publishing my pattern designs. Plus the VA can use the quilts for Christmas presents for patients if I get them done before Christmas. The problem with one of them, is it is just a big piece of fabric with a border of squares, it looks more like a back than a front of a quilt. I don't have time to make a top to go with it, so I put a solid color on the back, and decided to quilt it with that as the top.
Here is how it is looking so far:

I have to confess, I could not do this without my micro handles that Jorge bought for me last year.
